Self-Care and Self Priority
We have seen the self-care campaign almost everywhere. So far, we know that self-care is the activity that we prioritize ourselves. There are a lot of offers and services to introduce the self-care activities. Some examples of self-care ideas are money-consuming products. It could be self-pampered service, beauty service, even some fancy treats. However, those self-care activities are commonly misinterpreted as luxurious activities that cost a lot of pennies. This is something that we are concerned about, we are worried that people would think those luxurious activities are a necessary self-care practice. We believe that self-care is an activity that is accessible for everyone. It is the practice when someone takes the time of themselves and healed both mentally and physically.
We are telling you that self-care is as simple as maintaining a good and healthy habit. The key to self-care is when you are prioritizing yourself as well as prioritizing any habit to improve your life.
Here, we are giving you any ideas to practice self-care. We promise that these ideas are really close to yourself and really easy to do. Because the best self-care is inexpensive and accessible for everyone.
Have a better sleeping schedule
Trying to have a better sleeping habit is already one fundamental step for self-care because our body and mind always need a good quality of sleep. Let’s remember how many times we force our body to work while we are clearly tired and sleepy. Self-care is the time to say our thank you to our body for working so hard all over this time.
Now the question is, how do we practice this self-care? What should we do to have a good sleeping habit? The question is to start focusing on yourself right before you sleep. Your action before sleeping has a fundamental role to determine how your sleep is going to be. Now your self-care journey can start with maintaining a healthy sleeping habit. The first thing that we can try is to have a consistent schedule. Try to sleep and wake up at the same time every day. No exception, even on weekends. By doing this, you can manage your time to have 7-8 hours of sleep. This can also help you to fall asleep and wake up easily. Who else hates it when we feel hard to sleep and hard to wake up. Start doing this and you will get rid of this problem. However, we cannot provide the best answer of what time exactly we need to sleep and wake up. This answer varies among individuals based on some factors such as age, schedule, lifestyle, and many more.
We all remember how does it feel to wake up after a really good sleep. We feel so refreshed and rested, also increasing our productivity level. We feel like all of our tiredness is cured. A step that is as simple as creating good habits can already massively improve your quality of sleep. Maintaining a good sleeping habit is an action that we care about ourselves. We care about our health; as the result, our body also will give the best to us.
Drink water regularly
Our body needs water to run its function. Getting enough water is essential for our health. By drinking water, our body has the ability to prevent dehydration, has a clearer mind and vision, and has a better mood. Just like a computer that works too long until it’s hot, our body also needs water to cool down the heat after a lot of works. Our body has a normal temperature and water help to maintain it at the right temperature.
That is why we suggest you drink water regularly as a part of self-care. We said, drink water regularly not drink a lot of water. That is totally a different thing. We suggest you get enough water, but that is a different story if you drink too much water. When you drink too much water, you may experience water poisoning or water intoxication that can disturb brain function. Have you heard about that? This might happen because our cells receive more water than they need which causes them to swell, and this swelling gives more pressure on the brain so it cannot work properly.
Now, talking about regularity, we all have the question of how regular we should drink water? It’s actually a too-simple question to ask but sadly it should come with a long explanation. But we are so happy to let you know. Throughout the years, the studies always have different answers and recommendations to this. We can’t have an exact answer about how regular we should drink water because every body has their own needs. It depends on our health condition, our activities, even the situation of place we live in play a big role in the amount of water consumption. So, there is no secret formula to measure the enough water that you need, but we can be more curious about what is our body needs to estimate how much water do we need.
First of all, before we jump into any measurement and math, better if we understand what is the importance of water? How does water works in our body? We all know the fact that most of our bodies contain water for 50% – 70%. This means that we are so dependable on water. Almost every little cell of our body needs water to run. Then you couldn’t imagine what would happen when we lack of water. Our body will experience dehydration. Dehydration has the effect to make our part of bodies don’t run properly. This is something that we should be aware of because even mild dehydration can cause a major effect on our bodies for example to drain our energy and make us tired.
Most people would think that we lose water just through sweat. It makes most of us think that we don’t need to worry about losing water if we are not sweating. The truth is, we still lose water in our bodies through a small movement like breathing. To make sure that you have enough water for your daily needs, maybe we should remember the suggestion of 8 glasses a day rules. Despite the situation of your body and location, 8 glasses a day seems reasonable and achievable. So if you want to take care more of yourself, start to drink water regularly and do not wait until you feel thirsty.
Eat healthy food
Eating can be enjoyable but worrisome as well. As a self-care or self-reward, we always have a lot of options of food that please our taste. But if we truly care about ourselves, we shouldn’t just think about the taste but also how the food will affect our bodies. This kind of awareness is a whole level of self-care.
We always be in a hard dilemma to choose whether we totally avoid indulgent food and live a super healthy lifestyle, or being completely indulged and forget what diet is. If we could say, why don’t we be in the middle? We are telling you that it is possible to enjoy all the pleasing tastes while maintaining a healthy life. It’s all about balance, and this balance is all that we need for self-care. The key is not to stress out about which one is healthy food and which one is not, but it’s all about the healthy habit that we applied. And what are those healthy habits? We can start with a healthy mind. For example, stop thinking to avoid food, but start to think about what food that I can add to my diet that supports my healthy lifestyle. Remember that this universe is providing us with a lot of healthy things to eat that we shouldn’t avoid. This is a training to our brain to have a mindset that we keep looking for healthy food, and by the time this mindset makes us no longer craving junk food.
Another thing is composition. You can have almost everything that you want but don’t forget to measure and portion it out. Have a quick investigation on how much your body needs and make sure that you eat just in the right portion and in the right size.
Have a self-reflection
Self-reflection is better to get to know more about ourselves. By doing this, we can have a self-monitoring and then lead us to better self-regulation. So why don't we try to put self-reflection activity in our self-time habit? Many successful people let say, a businessman, life coaches, and others agree that self-reflection is the key of their success.
According to most experts, self-reflection is “a meditation or serious thought about one’s character, actions, and motives.” It’s about to have a step back and start to reflecting all our life and all that we have done before. Not only what we have done, but also reflecting what we earn, what we lose, the success, fail, and regret. It’s all about our behavior, belief, and life. While self-reflecting we also have to remember that it’s not only about us. Of course, it’s important to wonder and question everything about our life. But self-reflection is also supposed to make us aware of our surroundings. So, do not only ask about how our life has been doing but also ask about how the life of our surroundings has been doing. This could be our family, friends, neighbor, or even our favorite celebrity.
Self-reflection is not only about past time. By reflecting on the past, we are helped to manage our future. With self-reflection, we can plan what can we do to improve our life for tomorrow. It helps us to be more detail-oriented as we always recall every detail that we might forget and try to remember these details for the future.
Imagine that we never have a self-reflection. Our life will repeat the same thing over and over again and we do not even realize it. This situation can lead us to the condition that we can’t improve ourselves. To be stuck into one thing over and over is totally killing us. It is like running on a treadmill. We keep running and lose our energy but do not move forward.
Have you ever wondered, what is a session with a psychology therapist look like? If you have, you might agree with us that they will ask you about your life, what is your problem and what your past is. During the session, you will be reflecting on your life and it is a part of the therapy. So, by doing this, you can also have your own session without going to any therapist. We didn’t say that we can replace the therapist session with our own self-reflection but at least having your own self-reflection can help your life a little. But of course, having a guide with a professional is way better.
So from now on, do self-reflection as a part of self-care. Self-reflection helps us improve our self-awareness, provide a new perspective of life, and improve confidence.
We are giving you a little guide on how to self-reflect. Firstly, Stop from life for a while. Look and listen of what is happening in your life to get a new perspective. And act to move forward and improve life.
Get some fresh air
There is always a great connection between nature and our bodies. This is the easiest way to have self-care. Just go outside and get the fresh air as much as we can. If going outside is too much work for you, just open your window in the morning and breath in. Both options are okay, just make sure that you do it in the morning while the air is still fresh without pollution from the vehicles.
In self-care, fresh air is also defined as a fresh start. Well, we cannot guarantee that having fresh air can automatically give you a better life, but we are sure that fresh air will automatically make us feel better.
A little appreciation for your body
It’s always easy to say ‘love yourself love your body’ but in reality, it is not really easy to love yourself. Before we jump into the word of love, let’s start to appreciate our bodies first. We are living in a society that cares and talks about the body a lot. As the result, we are having a standard of body appearance and we start to think that maintaining a good body shape is a form of appreciation.
Body appreciation can be done as simply as stop worrying about your weight, your pimple, and your wrinkle. Go to the spa, to the facial, or sheet-masking. But, you are doing those activities not because you are worried about your appearance. You are doing it because you feel fine, relaxed, and you feel that you want to get to know your body more, and simply just want to spend some memorable times with your body.
There is a fundamentally different feeling when you go to the beauty spa with anxiety and when you go to the beauty spa with a grateful feeling. Compare this phrase “C’mon body and skin, let’s work together in this treatment and please be better after the treatment” with this phrase “Here we are, my body and skin, enjooooy”
Now tell us, when was the last time you feel really grateful for your body? When was the last time you really spend a day for yourself? Ask yourself, and analyze the answer. What is your feeling after the self-care, what is the improvement, and what is your vision after that. You are the only one who knows all the answers and now you know your body better.
